Kolkata: In a relief to the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) leaders, the Calcutta High Court on Tuesday directed the CBI not to arrest its leaders and activists accused in the Madan Tamang murder case till their anticipatory bail pleas are disposed of.
The high court adjourned the hearing in the anticipatory bail case for three weeks. In their interim order a division bench of Justice Asim Kumar Roy and Justice M.M. Banerjee directed the CBI to file an affidavit in two weeks stating if it had submitted a comprehensive report on the investigation in the murder case before the Supreme Court.
The CBI had named Morcha president Bimal Gurung, general secretary Roshan Giri and 21 party leaders and activists in the chargesheet filed in City Sessions Court in May.
Madan Tamang was brutally murdered in Darjeeling on May 21, 2010, while overseeing preparations for a political meeting by alleged Morcha activists.
