Kolkata: A married woman who had missed the last train to Kolkata on Thursday night was gang raped by three criminals in front of her husband who was held at gunpoint by the trio. The incident occurred around midnight near Mourigram railway station in Howrah district of West Bengal co-incidentally hours after the Railway Budget was tabled in the Parliament.

According to the complaint lodged with the Shalimar Government Railway Police (GRP) by the victim’s husband the couple had gone to the Mourigram railway station to catch the last train to Kolkata. However, they missed the last local. Having no other option the husband wife duo planned to spend night at the platform and wait for the first train on Friday morning.

After sometime, three men approached them and demanded railway ticket from the husband. The man said that they had no tickets and they had missed the last local to the city. Then suddenly the trio started pulling him out of the platform. The lady protested and then the criminals fished out a revolver and pressed it on the forehead of her husband.

The couple was dragged to a deserted mango orchard nearby. One of the man slapped the husband threatened him at gunpoint and gagged him to a tree. The other two took turns to rape the lady in front of him.
“We have arrested one of the accused Tara Bagh on the basis of the complaint lodged by the victim’s husband. The other two are absconding. We have launched a manhunt for them.” said a GRP official.

According to police sources, the couple who originally hails from Sabong in Paschim Midnapore district has been staying near Alampur in Howrah district recently as the man was working in a hotel in the area. The two were scheduled to travel to their relative’s house in Kolkata on Thursday night when they encountered such a gruesome incident.

“The lady around 22 years old is still recuperating in a hospital. She is so traumatized that she is not in a position to speak,” said an investigating officer.
