Agra: A few unknown miscreants vandalised the St. Mary’s Church in the Pratabpura area of Agra Cantonment. The hooligans not only dislodged and damaged four statues of Mother Mary but also put a dog chain on one of them at the church.
The intruders intended to hurt the religious sentiments as they placed the head of child Jesus Christ in the hand of Mother Mary and attached a dog chain to the neck. Also two statues in glass boxes were destroyed and the lock of the main entrance to the church was broken. A notice board and a car parked within the premises were also damaged.
The tragic episode has triggered outrage among the members of the local Christian community. Leaders of Christian community in Agra condemned the act and have demanded firm action against the culprits within 24 hours.
The district magistrate of Agra and police officials has reached the church to take to review security arrangement in the area.
