Kolkata: A first year student was allegedly roughed up and molested by a BSF jawan when she did not agree to the marriage proposal of the jawan. The incident occurred at the Government Place apartment in Jagacha Howrah district of West Bengal.

The student immediately lodged a complaint with the Jagacha police station. The jawan Dharmendra Gupta hailing from Kanpur is absconding.

According to police sources, the accused had come to stay at the apartment six months back where he used to stay with one of his friends. The girl had alleged that Dharmendra often used to tease her.
He had also allegedly proposed her two months back while she was on her way to college. When she refused she was slapped by Dharmendra.

The girl informed her family members and Dharmendra begged for pardon infront of the local residents.  After the incident he kept quiet for sometime. But he again started to disturb her. On Wednesday night when she was returning home Dharmendra stopped her and pulled her by her hand. He also allegedly threatened to kill her if she refused to marry him. The girl tried to escape but the accused caught her and allegedly beat her up. He fled away leaving her on the road. 

The girl was treated and discharged at a nearby hospital after which she lodged a complaint. She received injuries below her left eye and on her jaws.

“The accused may have fled away to another state. We have launched search operation for him. He will surely be arrested,” said a senior official of Howrah City Police.
