Pakistan hangs 10 male convicts in a day

3/17/2015 7:07:33 PM

Islamabad: Pakistan hanged at least 10 male convicts today. This is largest single-day execution since the Pakistani government lifted a moratorium on the death penalty.

Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif reinstated the death penalty after the December 16, 2014 School attack in Peshawar that killed 134 children along with 16 staff members.

Since the death penalty was reinstated, 27 people have been put to death in addition to the 10 men hanged today.

Human rights groups protested the reinstatement of capital punishment, saying many convictions in Pakistan are highly unreliable, obtained through torture or unfair trials.

According to Human Rights groups there are more than 8000 people on death row in Pakistan.
