Kolkata: In the first ever booking under Protection of Children  from Sexual Offence (Pocso) Act 2012, in West Bengal, the Barasat court on Friday sentenced a teacher to ten years rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting two minor girls in his computer training centre one and half years ago. 

The teacher Sandip Das was arrested by the Barasat police in September 2013 after the mothers of two children lodged a complaint against him stating that their daughters were sexually assaulted by Das for several days. As per the complaint , “ After the class was over he would ask our children to stay back. Then he used to sexually molest the kids sexually. He also threatened them not to tell anybody. We suspected something wrong when we found that they were complaining of pain in various body parts. We questioned them and the girls spoke of the torture.” 

Das, a resident of Ashwinipally in Barasat had set up the computer training centre at his residence. The two girls were students of classes II and III in a primary school. 

Das was convicted of Pocso Act on Thursday. On Friday, second additional district and sessions judge Shantanu Jha sentenced him to 10 years imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 5000.” If Das fails to pay the fine, he will have to undergo further six months imprisonment.,” the judge observed.
