President warned Pakistan and expressed his concerns over declining moral values and increasing crime against women in the country.
New Delhi: President Pranab Mukherjee warned the old rival Pakistan during his Republic Day speech that India’s friendly behavior should not be taken for granted by the neighbour.
Pranab Mukherjee while addressing the nation said, “We believe in peace on the border and are always ready to offer a hand in the hope of friendship but this hand should not be taken for granted.”
India celebrated its 64th Republic Day today. New Delhi was grandly decorated and heavily guarded as most of the areas of the capital were sealed for the annual parade of military. Bhutan’s king Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck was the chief guest.
President Mukherjee also expressed his concerns over dying moral values and increasing crimes against women in the country. The President said, “It is the time for the nation to reset its moral compass”. While giving his remarks on Delhi gang rape case Mukherjee said the death of the 23-year-old woman is a symbol of all that new India strives to be. Mukherjee further added, “We lost more than a valuable life, we lost a dream and we must look deep into our conscience and find out where we have faltered”.
