Kolkata: In what can be called the greatest haul of FICN in the country in recent memory, the Special Task Force (STF) of the Kolkata Police recovered fake currency of Rs 10 crores and arrested a business man from Central Kolkata in connection with the seizure.

“Chandrasekhar Jaiswal, a scrap dealer by profession was nabbed on the basis of a source information from the Bowbazar area in Central Kolkata. We had a tip off that the accused was associated in dealing with fake currency in the garb of scrap dealing for  a considerable period of time,” deputy commissioner, STF Amit Javalgi said at a press conference in the city on Monday.

A sleuth investigating the case said that Jaiswal was apprehended on 27th February and on prolonged interrogation we came across a godown in Domjur area in Howrah.” We raided the godown and stumbled upon 450 sacks like packets containing fake notes, dust of currency, and other instruments that are used for manufacture of such fine currency,” said an investigating officer.



“We are suspecting that such huge haul may be used for funding terrorist outfits across the country. Dollars of Europe and countries like Turkey, Zimbabwe was also recovered from the godown,” said a sleuth.

A resident of Manicktala area in the eastern part of the city, the 50 year old has been associated with scrap dealing since 1997. “We have already informed the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and other police units across the country who had made fake currency haul of large extent in the recent past. He is a hard nut to crack. But we are optimistic that he is involved in one of the biggest rackets of fake note business across the country,” a senior STF official told Journospy.
The accused is in the custody of the STF till 13th March.
