Kolkata: The Bansdroni police station arrested four youths including two minors on charges of gang raping a minor girl, they had befriended a few months back, through a well known a social networking site. The incident occurred at one of the accused’s residence at New Alipore in southern part of the city.

According to police sources, the victim had become friends with one of the accused Soumyajit Das alias Raj after they interacted through a social networking site. On Thursday Raj called the victim for a meeting at Rabindra Sarobar and told her that he would introduce her with two of his friends Anik and Sanket. The girl was accompanied with one of her friends also a minor girl. Anik had a car along with him and all of them proposed to travel to Anik’s house at New Alipore barely 4 kilometers away from Rabindra Sarobar . One of their friends Avishek boarded the car midway.

After they reached their destination, the four youths allegedly gangraped the two and wrongfully confined them. They also took snapshots of the girls in compromising positions and threatened to blackmail them by circulating those pictures after the crime, they dropped the duo near their residence areas at Bansdroni at the southern fringes of the city.
               
The next day, one of the victim’s parents suspected something strange in their daughter’s behaviour and on being questioned she narrated the story. “They immediately lodged a complaint on Friday. “We wasted no time and on the basis of the girl’s statement arrested Anik Bhattacharjee from his New Alipore residence. Following this Avishek Tarafdar was arrested from his house at Parnasree. Sanket Ghosh was picked up from his home at Narkeldanga while Soumayajit Das was apprehended from Thakurpukur,” said Santosh Pandey, deputy commissioner (south suburban division)
               
Police said that Soumyajit (17) is a class IX student of a reputed city school while Sanket is also a minor. The duo were produced at the juvenile court on Saturday and were remanded to home. The other two accused were remanded to police custody till March 26th.
