Search for a new Prime Minister begins after Supreme Court of Pakistan convicted Gilani for Contempt.
Islamabad: The Supreme Court of Pakistan disqualified Pakistani Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani’s eligibility to hold the PMO. After months of legal warfare between the Pakistan People's party (PPP) government and the judiciary, Yousuf Raza Gilani was stripped of his office by a short statement read out in a packed courtroom by the chief justice.
“Gilani had effectively not been prime minister since April 26 when he had been found guilty of contempt for refusing to comply with a Supreme Court order to reopen dormant fraud investigations against President Asif Ali Zardari” said Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry. The Judge also directed the Pak President to appoint a new Prime Minister.
The Supreme Court’s ruling has created a political chaos in the country. President Asif Ali Zardari has ordered to appoint a new Prime Minister after judge rules 'convict Gilani' cannot hold the office. Yesterday senior PPP leaders including 23-year-old Bilawal Bhutto Zardari met to discuss the crisis that forced Zardari to cancel a trip to Russia.
