Kolkata:
BJP state president of Bengal Rahul Sinha met the Chief Electoral Officer Sunil Gupta on Sunday and demanded scratching of the nomination of Trinamool Congress candidate Mamata Bala Thakur for the Bangaon Lok Sabha by-election claiming that she has given false information about her academic qualifications.

"Thakur's nomination papers shows that she has passed Class 8 from Deshbandhu Chittaranjan Upper Primary School in Chandrapur in Maharashtra. However we have reliable source information that the school does not provide education up to Class 8 level. It provides education only up to the 7th standard.” Said Sinha.

Sinha added that Thakur has also not submitted any document in support of her academic qualifications." This tantamount to defrauding the Election Commission, so we have sought her nomination be cancelled on that ground," said Sinha.

While refuting Rahul Sinha’s allegations against her, Mamata Bala Thakur said, “BJP can make any allegation against us. What I have done is nothing wrong.”

The Feb 13 by-poll in the Lok Sabha constituency of North 24 Parganas district was necessitated by the death of Trinamool MP Kapil Krishna Thakur.
