Working Class Movement in India in the Wake of Globalisation

Sitaram Yechury unveils "Working Class Movement in India in the Wake of Globalisation" jointly edited by Dr. Jose George on Thursday.


Mumbai: Department of Civics and Politics of Mumbai University held the book release function of Working Class Movement in India in the Wake of Globalisation on Thursday. The book is jointly edited by Dr. Jose George, Professor and former head of department, Civics and Politics of Mumbai University.


The book was unveiled by Sitaram Yechury, Member of Parliament, CPI (M) in the presence of students and Professors of Mumbai University and trade union leaders. The book is said to be the outcome of a seminar held in 2009 by University of Mumbai on Working Class Movements. The book covers the last 30 years period of working class movements after the collapse of U.S.S.R and East European communist bloc.


The book tries to understand and analyse the conditions of the working class people in India. Various dimensions of working class people's life and politics have been deliberated in it. Also, an attempt has been made to present a working class perspective on various economic and social issues of contemporary Indian society.

The two other editors of the book are Manoj Kumar, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Political Science and International Relation, Wollega University, Ethiopia and Dharmendra Ojha, a scientisit with ONGC.

 

Along with the book unvieling ceremony a panel discussion was conducted on the same topic. Dr. Kanachana Mahadevan, Associate Professor and former HoD, Dept. Philosophy, University of Mumbai, Devidas Tuljapurkar, General Secretary, All India Maharashtra Bank Employees Federation, Sukumar Damle, General Secretary, AITUC, Maharashtra State Council attended the discussion chaired by Dr. Jayaraman, Professor, Chairperson, Dean, Centre for Science Technology and Society School of Habitat Studies, Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai.
